Our waiting period is over and we are officially Karina's mommy and daddy! We have been trying to get everything ready for her arrival. We moved a toddler bed into the boys' room and put some pink John Deere decorations on the wall. It was a nice compromise for a girl/boy room. We turned her room into a play room with a doll house and a little table perfect for tea parties (thanks for the donations Aly!). The boys are so excited to finally meet her.
It is such a strange feeling to know that Karina is truly, even legally, our daughter, and yet she is so far from home. I can't just drive down the street to pick her up. Endless land and ocean, even mountains of paperwork, seperate us at this moment, but I am trusting God. He has and always will hold her in the palm of His hand. He is going to comfort her when I am not there to brush away the tears. She is facing the biggest and highest mountain that she must climb, but she is not alone.
She is leaving everything she has ever known, her home, her family, her language, and trusting us to lead her down this new path. We look to this with excitement and joy, but also grieve the life that she is leaving behind. It is not to be forgotten or swept under the rug. It is her history, it is what has made her the special child that she is today. And she IS such a special an remarkable child. We can never express in words how thankful we are that God chose her for us.
